The terms on which this service is offered.
What the service is
Kept Record measures accessibility defects on web pages with an automated scanner and keeps a record of what it measured. The record is evidence of what an automated tool detected, at one moment, on one page, at one screen size. Automated scanning detects a subset of accessibility problems. A scan is not a legal assessment of a site, and nothing here is legal advice.
The service does not determine or assert that any page meets or fails any standard, law or regulation, and nothing it produces should be presented as though it did.
The free scan
- You may request a scan of any page that is reachable on the public internet. The scanner refuses addresses on private networks and addresses that fail its checks, and says why.
- You should have a reason to scan the page you enter. Scanning someone else's page to harass them, or repeatedly, is not what this is for, and we will refuse requests we believe are doing that.
- One visitor may request three scans an hour, and the whole service performs at most two hundred free scans a day. When those limits are reached the page says so and gives a time to try again.
- Results are kept for 7 days and then deleted. We may delete a record earlier if we must.
- A scan can fail, be refused by the site, or record that a page never settled. Each of these is recorded as what it is. None of them is a result about the page.
Your site, if you own one that was scanned
If your site was scanned at someone else's request and you would rather it were not, refuse the scanner by the method on its own page, linked at the foot of every page, and it will not return. If you want a record already made to be deleted before its time, write to us with its link.
What we do not promise
- That a scan finds every defect, or that a page with no detected defect has none.
- That the service is available at any particular time. A queued scan runs when a scanner is free, and the page says when that is not known.
- That anything here is legal advice, or a substitute for an assessment by a person qualified to make one.
Paid accounts
Nothing on this site can be bought yet. Terms for paid accounts, including payment, cancellation, and what happens to your records when an account closes, will be published here before the first account is opened, and these terms will be reviewed by a lawyer before then.
Liability, law and changes
The free service is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from its use or from reliance on any record it produces. Which country's law governs these terms, and where a dispute would be heard, will be settled in the legal review below and stated here.
These terms change when the service changes. The date below changes with them.
